Honored for Peace, Irene Neto Demands Her Husband’s Release
Irene Alexandra da Silva Neto, a person dedicated to the development and progress of Angola, feels honored to have been awarded the “Peace and Development” Decoration, granted by the People of Angola in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of National Independence.
This recognition reflects her trajectory in the fight for freedom, in education, healthcare, foreign relations, parliament, party militancy, cultural associations, and the third sector.
However, at this moment, Irene Neto wishes to express a concern that weighs heavily on her heart. Her family is facing an extremely difficult situation due to the political detention of her husband, a case that has been severely criticized by international organizations, human rights groups, and jurists. She strongly insists on the urgent need for his release, considering the detention to be arbitrary and illegal.
Irene Neto emphatically reinforces that her husband’s release is an absolute priority. There is no way to celebrate or accept this honor with the pride it deserves while her husband remains unjustly imprisoned, and her family is forced into exile. She calls on the relevant authorities to take all necessary measures to ensure his immediate release, as well as the return of property created with effort, dedication, and investment.
She believes that a more just and dignified future for Angola will only be possible when human rights are respected, and the freedom of all is guaranteed. She reaffirms her commitment to the country’s progress and hopes that together we can build a freer and more just society, where dialogue and respect prevail.
For this reason, Irene Neto appeals to the President of the Republic and the entire Angolan society to unite in this cause, with the hope that justice will prevail and freedom will be restored as soon as possible for her husband and all those who fight for a better country.
